Dr. Crystal LaVoulle

The LaVoulle Group / Literacy Learners, Inc.
Dr. Crystal LaVoulle is a literacy researcher, educator, and advocate whose work sits at the intersection of hip-hop, language arts, and evidence-based pedagogy. As founder of The LaVoulle Group and executive director of Literacy Learners, Inc., she has spent over two decades helping K–12 educators build classrooms where every student's voice is a resource — not a barrier. Read Write Rhyme is the culmination of that vision: a space where research meets rhythm and practice meets purpose.
Dr. Khalilah Ali
Assistant Professor of Education
Spelman College, Atlanta, GA
Dr. Khalilah Ali holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a focus on Literacy, Pedagogy, and Culture from Emory University. Her research is grounded in critical feminist and hip-hop pedagogies, with a focus on Hip-Hop Based Education, hidden curricula, and the educative nature of new media as it merges with elements of hip-hop culture. She emphasizes abolitionist education and accesses a womanist hip-hop framework to confront educational inequity and prepare future teacher leaders.
Dr. Joycelyn Wilson
Assistant Professor of Hip-Hop Studies & Digital Media
Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA
Dr. Joycelyn Wilson is an educational anthropologist at Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts whose work explores hip-hop's intersections with innovation, design, and social justice. Her courses highlight how hip-hop is rooted in innovation and pedagogics and can be used to inspire design thinking, engineering education, and digital and computational media. She has been featured in Rolling Stone, InStyle, and WABE, and holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Kimberly White-Glenn
Assistant Professor of Reading
Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, AL
Dr. Kimberly White-Glenn is a reading educator and media literacy scholar at Alabama A&M University. Selected by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) to develop a national Media Literacy Playbook, she is the first faculty member to take on such a role. A proud two-time AAMU alumna, she holds a Doctorate in Reading/Literacy and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in reading education, with a focus on helping students navigate fact, fiction, and bias in an era of emerging technologies.
